Universal Music Day educates people about the power and importance of Music-making. It acts as a spark to ignite, encourage, and inspire people to take an active role in their own lives to LOVE their MUSIC and themselves, to create a life that enriches and creates compassionate communities. It’s about what Alfred Adler referred to as a spirit of belonging to this human family, self-esteem and social interest.–all of which begins by claiming one’s own breathe, heart song and MUSIC-making.

Those tools and attributes, especially during these challenging times of uncertainty and transition offer wonderful opportunities. Those tools can help people effectively deal with many personal, national and world problems with the active involvement of all the world’s citizens. Active involvement will grow from claiming ones breathe, voice, MUSIC-making and FUN!

Whether you are part of the 1% or the 99% our minds, egos and emotions can easily lead us astray. HOWEVER, IF/WHEN we are willing to go into the SILENCE, quite the chatter to get to STILLNESS and LISTEN to our HEARTS, our HeARTS can lead the way!
That is what the 6th Annual UniversalMusicDay.org is all about.

THREE THINGS (well ok 6) to do/BE — no more war, no more fighting language, no more “hard” work it is time to Lead, Teach, Inspire, Wake-up America and Encourage Non-Violence and Non-Violation through using what we know, bringing our special gifts to the world and to PLAY. Our beloved Country and World are ready and need ALL of our gifts!

SOUND — UM is the highest vibration in the Universe–teach your children to hUM whenever they feel scared, angry, frustrated, impatient, etc. and of course sing, drum or play another instrument, make ART and Dance when appropriate.

MEDITATE –  rather then Medicate–(Change the c to a t) research show DRAMATIC reductions in all kinds of violence when people and groups meditate

VISUALIZE — visualize every one in the world laying down their guys  Whoops I thought I typed guNs maybe both would be god — WHOOPS I thought I typed good and again God  would be good for believers and non-believers can contemplate whatever works for them! It is about the LEARNING and questioning our answers! Go deeper and deeper and still deeper into the mysteries!

PLAY — make Music, Art, Dance, Drama

COMPASSION AND KINDNESS – Focus on Infinite Love and Gratitude – how can I make someone’s else life better!

Let’s encourage everyone from now on and for the 6th UniversalMusicDay to hUM notice and feel all our feelings, take full responsibility for those feeling and convert that energy into something life giving.(especially every time we feel scared, angry, frustrated: write, create a GRATITUDE journal, drum, play an instrument, sing, hum do some yoga, tai ji, or swim–something physical is great–and be gentle. Let’s be gentle with ourselves–remember no violation to ourselves or others. Let’s drop the shame so we don’t get more of the same!  Convert that ENERGY to  PEACE, LOVE, JOY, JUSTICE, COMPASSION and BLISS!!!

As our 91 year old wise woman, Clara Morabito said, at the 2nd Annual UMD “CHOOSE” to be grateful, caring thoughtful, well, fine, healthy, patient, strong, and calm all the time! CHOOSE! (See the complete poem on the page for 2008). WE CAN CHOOSE and turn this world around! SPECIAL SPOKESPERSON                Maestro Mary Knysh, of Music, Rhythm and Movement as our Spokesperson and the link between Music For People and Universal Music Day.  Mary is a highly acclaimed professional musician and educator praised for her effectiveness in reaching audiences from kids – to the aged and from teacher trainings to corporate development sessions. Mary travels the world including the United States, Caribbean, Europe, Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Japan performing and conducting workshops. She is a master teacher with Music for People, promotes self-expression through music improv in U.S. and Switzerland.

Universal Music Day speaks to everyone and especially to the 80% of the population who only “wish” they made Music.

Let us include everyone, from tone-deaf to pro in this glorious process and demonstrate the Power of Music-making. Music is just too important to our health and well-being to leave only to the professional Musicians and Super-stars.

Music-making nourishes our souls.

Music-making helps us deal with the whole continuum of human emotions.

So let’s create a World Wide Sound Wave for Peace, Love, Joy, Justice & Compassion!

Last Year 2011 our theme was:

Encourage everyone you know to Speak Our Universal Language!

For this 5th Annual Event we invite you to

1.) Invite your friends to join you,

2.)  Make some MUSIC and a video.

3.)  Title the video “A Song for Universal Music Day by (your name or group).”

4.)  Put it up on YouTube or Vimeo.

5.)  Send us an email. Let’s see how many people we can connect with MUSIC Making!

6.)  Please help us spread the word and get others involved!

WHY???

Because YOU deserve YOUR voice! YOU deserve YOUR heart’s song! 

Because when you have the creative expression of your Music and Art
